Default do you think its possible to become obsessed with exercise as much as food?

iv just realised that all the posts iv answered recently have been exercise based... and i feel more guilty about not going to the gym than i do about eating?

Yes- some bulimics exercise excessively rather than throw up to get rid of calories.

People are sometimes considered to have a problem with compulsive exercise when they keep overexercising despite being sick, having injuries, or being tired all the time. Missing workouts leads to guilt/panic.

I don't know a lot about it... but people can get obsessed with practically anything.

that is true about the injury as well.. i need an operation on my shoulder because i hve damaged it so badly and i still keep going to the gym. and i did 300 situps at 2am this morning.

so maybe i am obsessed. not sure if this is necessarily a bad thing though??

iv never thought of myself as bulimic, iv always restricted to lose weight and never been able to make myself vomit (although i have tried) but maybe i am now hjaving some tendencies?
i guess that makes me EDNOS?

    i dont know.

I'm pretty sure there is a term "exercise bulimia" that applies to people who don't necessarily throw up, but use exercise to "purge" calories. I'm not sure if it's considered ED-NOS or what.

It seems to me that if you can't allow yourself to give up exercising even for a while to let injuries heal or whatever, then it is a problem, it is a bad thing. It can be unhealthy. Too much exercise can harm your immune system and your heart (leading to, perhaps, getting sick or getting a heart attack). Also, it can be like an addiction, a crutch that you rely on for your physical and mental stability.

Sorry I can't offer more advice or understanding. Exericise compulsion is just not something I've got any experience with.

lol i dont know waht to say about it either, dont know anything about it!!
may post this in the bulimia thread, see if those girls can share any wisdom.

i personally struggle to see that its a bad thing, but i suppose that is the nature of any addiction.

I would have to say exercise can be addictive, when you work-out your body releases drugs into ya body....sometimes giving you a euphoric feeling....or just generally happier. But i can see it being possible to be addictive to those drugs.....the more you miss that rush. the more exercise you need to release more of the bodily drugs. so yeah like anny addiction you need a bigger amount of the drug to get the same high so you must do more. making you need to do it a hell of alot

I tend to restrict or exercise. I really prefer weight lifting and jogging or walking but I either restrict or exercise, not both usually. So I don't consider myself obsessed with exercise. I'm rambling, probably because I'm trying not to binge atm.

Yes it's very easy to become just as obssessed about exercise as food. I, myself, being an athlete for many teams am more excessive when it comes to exercising than I am when it comes to calorie restriction. Because when you bike over 50 miles in a day or run 18 miles you can get away with a slightly higher caloric limit than other anas/ednos girls at the same height and weight.

i swear i must be obsessed with running/ exercise. Even if i'm exhausted i manage to do some and i also restrict at the same time.
    I feel really guilty if i don't.
I also feel about as bad about binge eating though so...
i don't know the technical term for it though XD
