I get told a lot of different things! Like this starvation mode business etc. I have done 3 days with nothing but water and lost a couple of kgs but felt really nauseous and tired but it was worth it to see those scales go down! I am going to try it again as I am feeling less and lesshungry these days! I think the wii fit bored is great too! I need will power god damn it!

In my unprofessional opinion... If you are going to fast, start out with a small fast and work your way up (or do a juice/liquid fast!). Water fasts are pretty brutal. And you'll feel very weak. But you can lose 1 pound a day (or more depending on your start weight). If your BMI is already underweight you probably won't lose as much.

Drink AT LEAST 8-10 glass of 8oz water each day. I keep a 20oz bottle with me at all times and just keep filling it up. Taking little sips at a time, never big gulps. I usually start my fasts on a day when I'm super busy running around because the first day isn't physically tiring but you'll get loads of cravings (day 2 as well), and then try and have part of the harder days (2-4) on the weekend when I can lie around. After day 3 you will no longer feel any physical hunger, anything you feel is just craving. Your metabolism will slow a bit between days 3-5, but that just means that after you finish fasting you should eat less...

You can work out maybe on the first day of fasting, maybe even the second, but after that I really wouldn't recommend it. Let your body just rest and detoxify. The only problem with fasting is you will lose a ton of weight very quickly, but it kind of sets you up for binging later. Especially if you break the fast early and feel guilty or you resume your normal eating patterns after you end the fast (you'll put the weight right back on and then you'll start binging because you've been starving yourself)... so I don't fast too often unless I'm really feeling emotionally strong-willed. Restricting, especially something like 2-4-6-8 can give you almost the same 1-pound-a-day weight loss for a while without the binge effects of fasting.

In any case, good luck to both of you!!

If you aren't already, make sure you are taking multivitamins with 100% of your Vitamin D, as well as calcium supplements, and Omega-3s.

These are critical during fasting. There's no point in being skinny if your bones are wasted away. Take care
