Does anyone else know anything about orthorexia?
I've been reading about it today. The main reason I eat low cal is to lose weight, ie. anorexia, but I also have a million different OCD type reactions to food, and am finding it increasingly difficult to eat things I don't classify as pure and healthy.
I'm quite happy with my diet calorie wise (700-900 spread evenly throughout the day) as it's giving a reasonable loss with little or no impulse to binge.
But am finding that almost everyday I'll sit analysing my days food (I eat exactly the same amounts of the same foods at exactly the same time each day) and I'll find myself going through each meal like a sieve, seeing if there is any opportunity to 'replace' the various elements of each meal with an even healthier option.
I've always googled food for cals and fat but am now googling different vegetables and juices and so on to find the most concentrated forms of various nutrients.
At the moment I allow controlled amounts of wholegrain twice a day, and a portion of high quality healthy protein, which used to be tuna and eggs but I've switched to pulses because for some reason this feels cleaner or easier to eat or something - I dunno! Plus I have fruit and veg juice but am thinking of replacing fruit juice with lemon juice because of the high vitamin content and low/no sugar. Plus it's good for liver/kidneys.
HELP! It's driving me crazy!Feel like a walking food dictionary. Don't know why I'm writing it but guess I just wondered if anyone else feels this way...?

I dont really feel qualified to comment here (as a newbie),
but I so associate with u feeling like a walking calorie dictionary.
If it's not money (that I dont have, its calories that I have had.)
It all just constitutes to zero self esteem.
Maybe later, someone else will come along, and offer some good advice. Stick around. They know their stuff.

Thanks for the reply sk8r - felt kind of dumb after posting it - like maybe it should have been posted elsewhere. Have been reading more about it/youtubing and orthorexics really don't seem to lose weight on purpose - it's not the central aim, whereas for me, it really is. Although still picking apart every gram of what I eat and working out how to perfect it to the healthiest balance of things possible. Though that itself is dumb as I only seem interested in some nutrients - various vits/minerals, and know I'm not getting enough essential fat but still avoid it. I guess it's a totally different condition and that my ana is just developing a whole new level of detail
Anyway - yes this place does seem great - and so great that it's actually active. I used to be in other forums and it was horrible once they shut down.

I guess that is how I started out. Really I was just concerned with nutritional intake. I go through stages. Sometimes the orthorexia part of me takes over full force and then other times I eat everything that is bad for me. And then I beat myself up over eating junk bc I'm usually so obsessive about calorie intake and nutritional value. So I kind of understand what you are going through...
