Do any of you drink it? It's loaded with Aspartame which apart from being really really bad for you (it contains methanol for crying out loud) can make you gain weight as well, so just try to stay away from it if you're really trying to lose some pounds.
Studies show that drinking regular soda, even with the calories, would be the same, if not better for you if you're trying to lose weight, and it's better all together to stay away from soda.
I personally drink seltzer water, because the carbonation fills you up like soda would, but it's just water, so maybe that could be a good alternative for some.
Also, if you notice aspartame in other foods that you eat, try to switch it. Aspartame really is horrible for your body, mentally and physically, and I wish it wasn't used.

Studies haven't proven that aspartame directly causes weight gain, only that people who drink beverages with aspartame are more prone to weight gain. There are other factors. Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners are known to increase sugar cravings so that's probably why people gain weight; because they're craving and subsequently eating more sugary foods. But if someone is controlling their diet properly I highly doubt that aspartame alone would make them gain weight, especially at the extreme caloric deficits lots of peoples' diets include here.
And besides, people with eating disorders obviously don't care about their health. And for some people it DOES help them lose weight. They drink diet soda, they feel full, they eat less, so they lose weight. Ta daaa.

LOL
Splenda doesn't have aspartame in it, does it? I thought it was just sucralose. Ehh either way I still use it. And I use crystal light too. But I prefer Nestea instant iced tea mix because it's sweetened with sucralose instead of aspartame. I avoid aspartame as much as I can but I'll use it if I have to!

im pretty sure splenda has a high percentage of aspartame...one could argue that my memory lapses and general "brain farts" have to do with the ill effects of high doses of aspartame on a daily basis for the past few years, but to be honest i think my eating disorders, stress disorders, drug abuse and fckd up sleep schedule are more to blame. aspartame is like the mentally retarded little brother of a bad guy - not so great, but not significant enough to do too much damage.

Aspartame is so horrible because it has methanol? Guess what? So does fruit and milk. An 8 oz. glass of tomato juice has 8x the amount of methanol than 8 oz glass of diet soda. Small amounts of methanol is metabolized in the liver so aspartame does not enter the bloodstream and therefore does not accumulate in the body.
You would have to drink 600-1700 cans of diet soda in one sitting to get true methanol poisoning which is obviously impossible.
I am reluctant to believe any study against aspartame as they use overweight/obese people as their subjects. Of course a fat person will overcompensate with food when they are drinking diet sodas. We have eating disorders and know exactly what we are putting into our bodies.
I eat/drink aspartame, not in excessive amounts but it does help curb cravings. I'm not entirely stupid, I know exactly what aspartame is comprised of and its metabolic pathway so I don't buy those ridiculous "aspartame causes cancer! Be afraid!" myths people like to spew across the internet.

people like to say everything causes cancer. years ago doctors suggested that people smoke cigarettes to lose weight. in 10 years they'll probably make some discovery about something we're doing completely wrong today. idgaf, i dont trust those analysts and researchers; most of them have stock in whatever meds they encourage you to take, and whatever they say is bad for you was just fine two years ago. its such bs. i try not to eat too much processed food, lots of fruit veggies and nuts and yogurt, and i guarantee that i, with my aspartame intake, am far healthier than the average fatass american eating crackdonalds and fried shit 10x a week

THIIIIIS. I bet you $100 that a lot of people who go around saying "you shouldn't drink stuff with aspartame in it! It causes cancer and makes you fat!" have a diet full of processed and fast foods, since most North Americans do. Ummm if anyone is going to die a food-related death, it's probably not going to be traced back to aspartame. More likely the horrible excuse for "food" people eat every day.
