I wanted to ask some of you you have experienced this. I used to be very very skinny, I guess you would say malnourished. One day I decided to stop being like that and gain weight, but when I gain weight, the fat goes to my stomach, trunk, etc, and my arms and legs and face stay quite skinny. The only way I can have a "normal" amount of fat on my arms and legs and face is if I am fat on my trunk. SO my body fat distribution is wrong somehow. I tried diet, and exercise and everything, but it always ends up like that. I think maybe it is hormonal. I read that recovered anorexics often get uneven fat deposits. However, from what I read this usually normalizes with time, it is just an initial symptom of recovery. I have had this for years and years. Before I go to a doctor about it ( I am very insecure about it ) I wanted to ask some people who have recovered or are recovering if they experienced something similar?

Abnormal fat distribution after recovery?
Well this is how it happned for me too. Initially all the fat went to my stomach and I looked like a malnourished alcoholic with a beer gut (not pretty), eventually it evened out a bit BUT.....My body looks nothing like it did before I developed anorexia. Its less curvy, more flabby (wasn't allowed to excercise during refeeding) and just....different. I can't really explain it. I am male and i stored all my fat like a woman after i gained weight. I have a 6 pack. Veins running on my chest and entire arms. Im muscular. But i have a big hippo butt and hold fat on my legs. It looks rediculous. DIE FAT DIE and die it will. Nathrakh is on a mission and not affraid to bring out the big guns.
Are you guys sure you're not just experiencing body dysmorphia? It's pretty common in people with EDs, I doubt your weight distribution is abnormal.
Nope im sure im not. I think it had something to do with. Man with high fat have higher estrogen. I was obese during my youth. Guess the fat cells got made around my butt mostly. So that might have something to do with it. But when i got skinny i still had a fat ass.

Do you have a normal amount of fat on your arms/legs/neck/hands/face/ribs/back/shoulders/feet etc?
My problem is that I have too little there, noticeably, and any fat I put on seems to want to go to my trunk. However, I can gain weight in the periphery too, and sometimes I am almost "balanced", ie, i have burned off the trunk fat through exercise, yet have gained periphery fat and could almost be normal. But then over the space of a few days, it all goes back. I lose most of the fat from my periphery, and my trunk gets fat again. It's like something in my body says "hey no wait, I want to send all the fat back to the wrong places and eat up all the hard earned "good" fat from the periphery. but my calorie intake and exercise level stays exactly the same. I need to exercise like an hour a day, if I skip a day, overnight I will get fat deposits in the trunk. And no, I do not eat too much. So I am thinking it could be a hormonal issue, that my body secretes some hormone which messes up my fat distribution again and again. If it was a symptom of anorexia, I would not be able to get "almost balanced" to begin with. But several times I have been very close, but then, as I said, in the space of a few days, for no reason, it all goes back the way it was. And no, I am not imagining it!

For a male it is actually normal to store most fat on the trunk. Biological we have been hunters for millions of years. The male body prefers to store fat on the trunk because it does not impair movement. I on the other hand, am a male that stores it on the butt and leggs.
Yes it is normal to store EXCESS body fat on the trunk, but I do not have excess fat. I have too little. Well, overall I probably have the right amount, but the distribution is not normal. I'm sorry to hear about your problem, the butt is a big problem area for me aswell. I count that as the trunk.
Hey Mark, I was EXTREMELY underweight when I started recovery, my body fat can't have been over 8 percent and I am female. I do now have a pretty even body fat distribution, but at first it wentdirectly to my stomach.
