Question prozac for treatment of Bulimia?

as you probably well know depression can spur on Bulimia, and in my case my bulimia made me depressed.

now prozac is the only drug approved by the FDA for treatment of Bulimia. they have found that 60mg prozac showed a significant reduction in the binge/purge cycle (however its effects have only been recorded as short term, i.e a couple of months), and together with a phychotherapist etc its really effective.

my question is has anyone used prozac for bulimia and what was its effetcs? my doctor has given it to me but for 20mg a day (im using 40mg).

apparently one of the most common side effects is weight loss as it supresses the appatite!! any comments? how did effect you?

    thanks

I was in an eating disorder treatment center a few months back, and they had me on prozac for my depression. I don't have a whole lot of positives to say about it, because it gave me terrible headaches, made my insomnia worse and made me feel even more apathetic than I normally do.
I know it has different effects on different people, but for me being on Prozac sucked and did nothing to help me, my depression or my eating disorder.

i'm going on xanax hoping it'll help with my anxiety problem and bulimia. although, i've read on the web that taking antidepressants will most likely cause weight gain bc the chemicals in the drugs relaxes you and make you eat more, hence the weight gain.

but, being bulimic, i'm already so occupied about body image and weighting myself, i think the drug will help take my mind of it some what and not become so obsessed with food... hopefully.

I'm on prozac (80mg) and Xanax .5mg as needed. Prozac is a weight negative drug so you will not gain weight taking it. In fact it's helped me drop about 60 pounds in the last four months along with severe restricting. I will say that it lessens the urge to binge and it certainly lessens the reaction to purge. Purgeing is just too much of a pain in the ass to bother since I'm on the drug. I'm not recovered, rather I've gone back to all my ana behaviors but at least I'm not binging and purging. Good luck!

Not sure about Prozac, but I'm on Xanax for anxiety, and I've *heard* that it "helps" with bulimia... But no. It doesn't. It does make me happier and more upbeat, but I still BP.

    Default Drugs....

I was put on Prozac for OCD and I had no idea it could help me lose weight!! I stopped taking it because it actually made me more depressed.... How can I get a prescription without telling someone what it's for? Any ideas?
