Default when i ask 'how are you'

    i don't mean the simple

    'sup how r u'

    i mean

    how are you?

    are you doing alright?

    do you need to talk?

    i don't want an 'i'm good, you?'

unless you really are good and that's the only word to sum it up.

I understand that and it's such a generous gesture you're putting out there. People who genuinely care about others are rare

i just want people to feel like they matter, you know? Like, your feelings are real and and not any less important.

Yeah...usually when I say "I'm good"...I mean "It's complicated to describe in words and I don't want to burden you with my issues...id rather know how your day was".

Agreed! And I share your view too OP—if I ask you how you are, it's because I want a genuine answer.

    OP, you are fab.

As a rule, the first time someone asks me how I am, I'll say "fine thanks, you?" or something along those lines - it feels like an extension of "hello", not really a question at all! If the person asks again or circles back round to it, I know they're interested in how I actually am.
