I have a weird sort of ED which fluctuates in seriousness. Right now I'm in a phase where I'm eating very little, and have been that way for several weeks now. A couple months maybe.
Well, it's to the point where I feel like my metabolism has all but died, and whenever I have a day where I eat a little more than the previous day, I feel like the weight sticks immediately. Like there's a noticeable difference an hour or two afterwards. Is that possible? I know when your body is in starvation mode, it converts food to fat cells/holds onto them really easily.
So along with that, I feel like I'm just maintaining a constant weight. I'm not losing anymore, and I don't want to restrict anymore than I already am. (500 cals/day max) I was wondering if any of you have been in this position, and what you've done about it.
Also curious about whether eating a bunch one day, bingeing I guess, could in some way kickstart your metabolism. I know in the past, there have been periods of a couple days where I've eaten way more than usual, and weirdly I'll look/feel thinner afterwards (only if it's a day or two though). I don't know whether that's what was happening or what, and I'm afraid to try lest I gain weight.
tl;dr
How does one maintain/continue weight loss when one's metabolism is essentially nonexistent? Is it possible bingeing (in a broad sense of the word) could help speed it up?
Thanks!

Bump this, as I'm curious about to know as well.

No offense, but I'm pretty sure 'starvation mode' isn't really a thing. Or at least it's not as big of a deal it's made to be (according to research I did on my own, feel free to challenge my views on this). I had the same issue as you did a while back, but after some time it became pretty apparent that I'm either bloating from water weight or whatever and/or just perceiving myself as being way bigger while nothing has changed because BDD and fucked-up perception. Not saying there's no way you have some real medical problems with your metabolism (not a doctor so I wouldn't know for sure anyway), however, all I know is your metabolism doesn't really go down all that much when you restrict, so there's no need to do anything special to try and boost it, your body will probably figure things out. Just keep eating normally (and listen to your body - if anything, eating more when I feel like I need it always made me feel physically better - but I know it can be tricky) and look after yourself!

500 cals is very very little.. not enough to sustain the body's need to function (and surviving in the long run.) please be careful. your body is holding onto every little piece of nutrition, which is why you're not losing weight anymore. It gets used to survive on very little food.... Your body is desperate for food! It wants to survive.. there must be a reason why they say no one should go below 1200 cals on a weight loss plan. Even 1200 is very little.
Can you try to up the cals? Maybe slowly? Are you getting help? <3

I was eating somewhere between 500-800 roughly calories a day between Feb and November last year. Since then I have been researching and try to make over 1200 calories- usually between 1200-1450 calories. I have a lot more energy and have a pretty active livestyle and exercise either walking or running most days but I"M STUCK!!! My weight is around 47kg, height 154cm so bmi 19 but a lower body fat%. Around 17.4. Could sleep be affecting my metabolism? I'm not good at getting 7hrs + uninterpted

nah, it's your diet. sleep doesn't have that much of an impact. If you exercise, you need more than 1400 at your height/weight. I'm pretty similar in stats to you, and ~1400 is what I can eat to maintain if I just sit around and do zero exercise.

But I'm doing the diet I'm doing (albeit a much bigger friend) and she has been losing on the same. She does do a desk job but we also jog an hour most mornings and she goes to the gym most days. I've been using myfitnesspal as a means of making myself able to eat because I'm able to track what's in things and make sure I am getting enough. Today for example I have been fairly inactive and myfitnesspal says with the activity I have done I need to eat 1600 to lose. Generally I'm scared to eat over 1500 but to hell I will if I need to to get losing again

Calculators for all the stuff aren't accurate. They don't know the exact 'activity' - how can they, they are a machine.
Don't compare yourself - you're in different situations and you have no idea what she eats anyway/does on a daily basis.
You're at a low bmi atm anyway - anything less and underweight - that is not good.I'm the only friend you need right? — Yuno Gasai

I'm not currently underweight- BMI of 19. I'm just scared I'll never lose the weight, It feels awful to be stuck. I don't even belong here

Thanks. That would be great- I just feel trapped. More so than I ever have restricting
