I have some friends from high school/college who’ve put on a significant amount of weight since I last saw them, and it’s given me such a weird sense of... interest (I wouldn’t say “pleasure,” per se) in seeing their IG/FB posts and their gradual descent into obesity. Please tell me I’m not alone...

Anyone else weirdly fascinated with other people’s weight gain?

You're definitely not alone!
I feel the same, and just about girls from high school. Coworkers who gradually put on weight while we are eployed at the same company also fascinate me. I'm watching them inflate like.....Why are you doing that?
I also notice that I tend to wonder when women will loose their "baby weight" after giving birth, or if they'll forever be the Fat Mom.

It’s interesting but not facinating

It's embarassing for me to admit but I find it relieving when I'm gaining/not losing, and empowering when I'm losing. at the same time I sympathize with them.

I feel that, using other people as a barometer, telling yourself it's okay but also wanting to feel stronger than them, in whatever twisted way.. More capable of restraint..

Yep. I get a sick sense of pleasure looking at people who used to be really fit and active in school slowly morph into sedentary blobs.
